If you’re in middle school or high school, do you ever feel like time is just dragging on? Like whatever situation you’re facing right now will never be over? Like you can’t see a light at the end of the tunnel? I know how that feels because I felt that way a lot during those years of my life. It’s especially tough because where we live and where we go to school largely determines who and what we will be surrounded by every day. Sometimes there are difficult people or circumstances going on at school, in our neighborhoods, or at home that we just can’t get away from. It can definitely make you feel trapped and hopeless.
Now that I’m older, I can look back and see that this time frame was so small compared to the span of the rest of my life. Why do I bring this up? Because my encouragement to you is that there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. As you and your peers start to look ahead to college, work, or whatever the next phase of your life may be after high school, everything shifts. The ways you’ve been defined by others, or the ways you’ve defined them, won’t matter anymore. You will all move on and your lives will be totally different. The world gets much bigger for you, and that’s a really cool thing :).
The current struggles you are facing, however, are important because these are the moments that develop your character. The choices you make right now WILL have an impact on what your future after high school looks like. Picture what you want for your future – Dream BIG :). Think about the choices you’re making right now – do they line up with getting you where you want to be after high school, or are they choices that just make getting through this time of your life more bearable? If the latter, it’s totally understandable, but the question is – will you come to regret them if they negatively impact your future?
What I know is this…
You have a purpose that no one else but you can fulfill. There is a hope & a future for you. Keep your eyes on the prize. Give it time.
