What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say “worship”?…If you are like me, music comes to mind first. Being a musician and worship leader, I often say how I love to “worship,” in relation to singing and playing “worship music.” The thing is, though, by thinking mostly of worship as music, we are selling worship short. Music is one way to express worship, and quite a powerful and important way at that, but it is certainly not all that worship is. The word “worship” is an old word that comes from the same source as the word “worth”! Worship, then, is about our hearts and bringing reverence, honor, praise and thanksgiving to our Lord and King.
Exciting news, ladies! It turns out you have countless ways to worship – from playing and singing music, dancing, praying, journaling … all the way to cheering up a person in need … or just doing your homework and chores. “Worship” takes place whenever we show devotion and gratitude to Jesus and proclaim his “worth,” bringing glory to His name. We can do that anytime we live the life He’s given us, in ways that please Him! So, the beautiful thing about worship is that it can happen any time and any place, the more the better, in fact!!
“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise–the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.” (Hebrews 13:15)
One awesome thing to remember is that when we worship by focusing our hearts and minds on Christ, the enemy cowers and flees! This is such a cool thing to picture as we come before the Lord. The voices of defeat and fear in our lives are driven away when we praise and thank God!! Be encouraged today that whatever it is that you’re facing is already in God’s hands. He is sovereign and good and He sees and hears your prayers. When you come to Him in any kind of worship, you are giving Him the only thing that He wants so much, YOU: beautiful, wonderful, amazing, unique, YOU. Come to Him today, worship Him in as many ways as you can find. Be creative! Worship can make even the most ordinary tasks come alive and be fun!! Happy worshipping!!
